Final Evaluation

OVERVIEW
My Final outcome was technology animation about how these blackberries from a bush travel all the way to the blackberry world factory where they then become into the blackberry phones. Through the development of the animation i made some changes such as how i wanted the blackberry world box to be on the inside, how many plasticine blackberries i wanted to be on the bush and having the little blackberries on the moving conveyor belt then sliding down the pipes. The aspects of my outcome which were successful i think was the overall animation however much could be improved making the animation more professional, not having other objects within the background just having the set in sight also the second to last picture of the final blackberry phone i had to use the paint brush to hide the purple plasticine. The purpose of this outcome was to make an animation advertising campaign for a product of your choice either under these categories Food, Fashion, Music or Technology. My outcome did fulfil the purpose of the brief as i did make an animation which advertised technology and a bit of food. Using the stop motion technique and taking individual pictures one by one with my phone and then uploaded them onto the computer were I cropped,changed/removed some pictures and imported them into imovie.

Through the development of this animation i've learnt more to do with the stop motion technique that it isn't one of the easiest types of animation to work with and how long the whole making of your animation set and shooting it can take. I experienced a few problems when working with these materials such as with the cardboard when cutting it it could look quite rough around the edges meaning having to sandpapering the rough edges and when building up the plasticine blackberries it was tricky to get them to look like blackberries instead of grapes. In relation to the Aardman Animation, the creators of Wallace and Gromit, who inspired me to make an animation for plasticine which they use to make Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run the movie and Flushed Away.

IDEAS & CONCEPTS

What were your ideas for the animation?

Either picking technology, fashion, food and music themes we had to create an little animation, I decided to pick technology as i thought that i could make an animation of about a Blackberry Phone but using the blackberry fruit that then becomes into the blackberry phone.

 How did you come up with the ideas? 

By doing and experimenting with little drawing doodles of different ideas i then realised that i could relate the blackberry phone to the fruit making the fruit come from a bush, to then walk to the blackberry world factory resulting in the end result of a blackberry phone.

Were your ideas effective? How could you improve on your animation?

Yes i do think my animation was effective however i could definitely make some improvements such as maybe reshooting the whole animation as i did make a few changes that are noticeable and i would also change the cardboard material as it looks a bit tacky.

Yes i enjoyed using this stop motion animation technique even though it is a longer technique to use for animation it still worked well and had the opportunity to add music in the background. I would definitely work with this animation technique again but this time making improvements and to do different things.

For my final animation I'm making an little advert to do with technology advertising a blackberry. I'm going to create a stop motion animation needing varies equipment to carry out the shooting/creating for my animation. Making the Animation
Began by making a set that was relative for my music choice the sculpted out my play-doh into the shapes I wanted. Then using my camera I took pictures of the different photo shoots that I wanted one by one and connected the camera to the computer to import them into imovie, making sure that all the pictures fit the frame then making clip adjustments. When I was happy with the adjustments I made to import the music, ABC by Jackson 5, 

Improvements 
- Using characters of the jackson 5 getting them to hold the 'A, B, C ' and some other lines from the lyrics
- Making the animation longer
-Trying to slow down the music as it seemed a bit fast

What materials and equipment did you use?

We used the software Adobe Flash animation when creating this animation and following a tutorial.

Did you enjoy using these techniques?

Making this animation was quite difficult and at times as I hadn't used this software before.

Would you like to work with them again?

Yes i would like to work again with this type of animation again, wanting to see what else I can create and the different things that I'll be able to do with Adobe Flash Animation.

IDEAS & CONCEPTS

What were your ideas for the animation?

We were selected different foods to create an animation from. My food i was given was teabags were I then decided to create a box which then opens up with another box inside with two teabags insides.

 How did you come up with the ideas? 

I was inspired by the skittles commercial, how they make the skittles come out of the bag to form different words and shapes.

Were your ideas effective? How could you improve on your animation?

Yes i do think my animation was effective however it maybe improve my animation

Stop-Motion Animation

Coffee Time from wan-tzu on Vimeo.

The creator for the coffee time animation is Wan-Tzu, using materials such as coloured paper and string to make the coffee machine and the cup of coffee. The techniques which was used to make this animation was stop-motion, where the object is moved in small movements and taken in individual photo frames. When he was creating the coffee box we realised that they must of created the box first and then dismantled the box and reversing the order of that to make

I like the artists work and the way he created the animation it looks like such a simple animation however a lot of work in creating the separate boxes and the pictures for the coffee machine also what i found with the other animation was that must of then consisted of music but with this one it was more of the sound effects of paper tearing etc.

Ideas & Concepts 

What were your ideas for the animation? How did you come up with this ideas?

When coming up with the ideas for the animation we created a mind map, thinking of things associated with the item we were given, describing the tem and even ideas of what the animation would be about.

Were your ideas effective for your food item? Did you concept work?

The ideas that we came up for the gingerbread men related well to the christmas cake decorations that were with the item. So from the decoration we decided to go with the christmas theme and the classic snowman story as the gingerbread men looked like snowmen.

How could you improve on your animation?

Improvements: Adding music in the background so that it isn't silent, maybe speeding up the decorating gingerbread animation as it's a bit slow and can get a bit boring cause its quite long.

Techniques, Materials & Equipment 

What techniques did you use? 

Using the app imotionHD on the ipads and the manual setting for the gingerbread animation, we captured the images one by one, moving the items each time. Then for the drawing animation using the time lapse setting which automatically took the images.

Did you enjoy using these techniques? 

Even though when using the manual setting we had to hold the ipads while capturing the images one by one which was a long technique, I preferred the time lapse techniques that automatically took the pictures as it was more quicker and easier to use.

Did you find them hard/difficult to work with?

The App was straight forward and easy to use.

Animation Project - Making A GIF

• How did you create your animated Gif?

We created the Gif in photoshop by firstly loading all the pictures for my Gif into a stack then going to Windows ➔ Animation, then a little box animation frames appeared. One by one we 'duplicates selected frames' then hiding the picture, repeating this until all was done but not hiding the last one.

• How effective is your animation? i.e. does it work well?

My Animation works well and is very effect ion its clear as to what I'm doing, making an experiment the pictures work nicely and flow well together. 

• What could you do to improve your animation? i.e. make it longer / add in some typography / try some different Adobe Photoshop techniques.

Improvements - I would of maybe liked to of made it longer or to of made an experiment which that exploded everywhere

- To of added some typography or some effects to make it more interesting

• Which artist did you look at for information on this technique?

We looked at Jamie Beck & Kevin Burg who's work mainly consumes of cinemagraphs 

• If you did this again what would you do to improve? Remember, you might decide to do this for your final outcome so this evaluation could be helpful!

Given the opportunity again to create this gif I would decide to change the angle of where I'm sitting i would prefer to be standing/sitting facing straight. I would also take the picture in a proper science classroom having a lot of science equipment around me.

Oscar Wilson

He is a calligram artist who is know for making objects out of words. To create my own oscar wilson t-shirt design i started to sketching a silhouette design related to surfing then fitted it with surfing words that linked to the surf project, once i was happy with how the words filled into my silhouette design i then went over it in a black liner and rubbed out the pencil outline of the design, i scanned my calligram into photoshop and cleaned it up a bit and then added colour into the section which i wanted.

The difference between mine and oscar wilson's work is that his work is obviously more accurately to the shape and his design and he's words fills the shape and more of his design. Whereas to my work the words are quite squareish and i still have some gaps within my words, i wasn't able to make this really look like a palm tree.

Oscar Wilson uses within his calligram random words that has no meaning but still links to the image, which i applied t my work by using surfing words such as: Beach, Dude, Bonzer, Awesome and more. I find his work really unique and creative being able to create an image out of words in such a bold and striking way.

Photoshop Three Colour Stencils: Using brighton picture in photoshop we duplicated the layers. With one layer we then had to go to "Image" ➔ "Adjustments" ➔ "Levels" to add so contrast into your picture once done then we duplicated that layer so we ended up with 3 layers. By hiding the top layer then going to the image that we just contrasted a bit we then "Image" ➔ "Adjustments" ➔ "Threshold" making it quite dark as it would used for the bottom layer so it needs to be of colour. Next we have to delete the white going to "Select" ➔ " Colour Range" then click onto the white sections which now makes the white become selected then by pressing deselect we were now able to see it a bit underneath. Then to change the colour by going to "Image" ➔ "Adjustments" ➔ "Hue and Saturation" ticking the colourise box and changing the colour to your liking. Then going back to the other layer at the top repeating "Image" ➔ "Adjustments" ➔ "Threshold" but this time making the threshold lighter then going to "Select" ➔ " Colour Range" then click onto the white sections which now makes the white become selected then by pressing deselect then make a new layer then put the new layer underneath both of the pictures that you have worked on and either fill the new layer with white or another colour so then you have your three colour stencil.

Lin Osbourne Style: By Using Photoshop and our pictures from brighton which relate to the project theme surfing, once we decided on our pictures and creating a new custom document we dragged them into photoshop and then cropped the pictures by selecting the "Crop Tool" and holding down shift was able to make a  perfect square so they would be the same size. Then going back to your custom document then drag each of your finished cropped pictures into the new document. All the pictures won't be the same size so by pressing "Cmd" & ' a grid  would help us arrange them so they are the same size. Afterwards, you place then however you would like i decided to incorporated my final logo onto the top.

Hand Drawn Si Scott Style

Illustrator Si Scott Style: Firstly typing some surfing related text in bold font, then clicking onto the selection mouse and right clicking onto the text then selecting "Creating Outlines" which separates all the letters so you are able to space them out.  By going to my selection panel i then selected the "Warp Tool" to click and drag the words out a bit so that when i go swirl the words you will still be able to clear l see the words. Then using the "Twirl Tool" which allowed me to create the swirls.

Graphics: Oscar Wilson Calligram T-shirt Logo Print

Calligram T- Shirt Logo: To make our own Calligram T-shirt Logo print in the style of Oscar Wilson we began by tracing a picture that was related to surfing, traced the outline out in pencil. Once we finished doing that we then started to fill the inside with surfing words for example: Sand, waves etc. following the outline of the shape when it was all filled we went over it in a black fine liner scanned it into the print and began to work on it in photoshop. Just like before we had to clean up our picture in photoshop.






Adobe Illustrator: Then moved it into Adobe illustrator and live traced the picture as e have done before with the other logos. Afterwards we added colour inside the words or we could of just added it to the outline of the words to make it more interesting. Sometime i would find that i had some gaps within my words so it would fill the word and the outside of the design so i had to take it back to photoshop to add some extra lines to close up the gaps that i had. 







           T- Shirt: When i was happy with my logo print and the colours i presented it onto a t-shirt. I really liked my final calligram logo print.

Graphics: Surfing Silhouette T-shirt

Outline: When making the surfing silhouette t-shirt we started off by drawing up a outline of our own surfing related silhouettes, once that was done we watched the tutorial to make a background texture which would be in the outline of the silhouette. 

The Texture: By using photoshop i used one of pictures from brighton by making the white bits of the picture into different colours by playing around with the hue and saturation. We also added surfing text changing the colour of that as well until we were happy with our design. Personally I found this tutorial hard and quite tricky but once i had some help i was able to understand it and to create another one. 

Texture and outline Together:  Before i decided to join both my outline drawing and the texture i had to scan the outline into the computer and cleaned it up in photoshop i also didn't like a particular part of my outline so i decided to remove it by using the magnetic lasso tool to just select the part of the outline which i wanted. By going to 'Colour Range and selecting the inside of my outline drawing i then pasted the texture into my outline drawing, moving around the texture behind to my liking merging the layers together. Once i liked my final outcome i presented it onto a t-shirt to see what it would look like.

The surfing project mind map was seperated into four sections: Surf related words, Names, Possible target audience & Existing surf brands we worked in groups to gather some information to put onto the mind map. We designed the mind map with little illustratsions connected to surfing and to make it more colourful.

Graphics: Initial Logo Drawings

For the initial logo drawings we had to come up with both calligram and other clever logos we had to create 8 logos but i wasn't about to come up with that many. It was difficult making some of these logos likely i was able to gain sue inspiration from my quick icon sketches however with others i thought of things/objects which are related to surfing but also fitted in with my target audience, Kids.
